The way our body is positioned.
Generally, we prefer the body to be in proper [[Body alignment]].
Personally prefer "alignment". "Noble posture" is also good, as opposed to "military posture".
Prepares the body for [[Respiration]] and all subsequent aspects of [[Voice|Singing]].
In theory, one could get this concept without [[Lessons]], though [[Feedback leads to improvement]]
## Core Concepts
- Alignment of ears, shoulders, hips, knees, and ankles.
- Allow for curvature of spine.
- Lift shoulders, roll back, relax.
- Raise [[Sternum]], expand [[Chest]], [[Rib cage]], and even [[Shoulder]]s.
- Maintain posture while singing
## Common issues
- "Military" posture. [[Relaxation]] is necessary.
## Descriptions that have helped students
- "Mirror selfie pose" (watch out for hips)
- "[[Superman]]"
- Chest out, slight tension in lower-mid back.
## Exercises
- [[Yoga]] for different aspects. [[Supine bound angle]] is one of my personal favorites, especially modifying with arms extended above the head.
- Reach hands up on inhale, slowly drop on exhale. [[Exhale should be longer than inhale]]
- Fold over and touch toes, slowly rising. "Vertebrae by vertebrae". Also from [[Yoga]].
- More imagery than actual exercise, but imagine you are a marionette with one string connected to the crown of your head, and you are being pulled up by that string. Bonus points for moving your arms around accordingly.
- If issue involves arms, have a partner go into the "shake hands" position, put one hand on [[Shoulder]] and/or [[Clavicle]], and shake the arm.
- Sit on an exercise ball
- Use a mirror. [[Self-reflection]] in its truest form.
