## Things covered under [[U.S. Copyright Law]]
- Performances during worship.
## Things needed to be covered
- Reproduction of songs (projecting or printing lyrics, sheet music, etc.)
- [[CCLI]], [[OneLicense]]
- Performance of pre-worship music
- [[CCS PERFORMcast]]
- Streaming of pre-worship music
- [[CCS WORSHIPcast]] and [[CCLI Streaming Plus]]
- Music outside of worship (concerts, book club, etc.)
- Streaming lyrics
- [[CCLI Streaming]], [[CCLI Streaming Plus]], [[OneLicense Streaming]]
- Streaming music during service
- [[CCLI Streaming]], [[CCLI Streaming Plus]], [[OneLicense Streaming]], [[CCS WORSHIPcast]]
- Performance of music at other events
- [[CCS PERFORMcast]]
[[CCLI SongSelect Premium]] can be reduced to [[CCLI SongSelect Advanced]]; their vocal sheets caused confusion among [[PPC Choir]] and [[Bullard, Marilyn]], so it would save time to just write them out. $46/yr savings.
If we want to allow for streaming more than just services: replace [[CCLI Streaming Plus]] with [[CCLI Streaming]] + [[CCS WORSHIPcast]]

Our current licensing:
- CCLI Church Copyright License
- CCLI Streaming Plus License
- SongSelect Premium
- OneLicense w/ Podcasting/Streaming
CCLI and OneLicense cover reproduction (printed lyrics on bulletins/slides), with their respective streaming bundles also including performance rights during the service on streams.
What we're lacking:
- Performance rights for pre-service (strangely, CCLI Streaming Plus includes _streaming_ before and after service, but not the usage in-house).
- Performance rights for other events (Blessing of the Animals, string recitals, etc.)
Both of these are covered by CCS PERFORMcast ([https://christiancopyrightsolutions.com/performmusic/](https://christiancopyrightsolutions.com/performmusic/)).
CCLI/OneLicense - reproduction
First up is the Religious Service Exemption under U.S. Copyright Law. This allows for use of copyrighted works "in the course of services at a place of worship". Notably, it does not allow for _reproducing_ those works (bulletins/slides), or using them outside the time and place of worship (streaming, other events, before/after service).
CCLI and OneLicense cover reproduction rights, such as showing lyrics on the slides or bulletins, but the two catalogs are not equivalent ([click here](https://www.pcusastore.com/Content/Site119/Basics/7431Copyrightho_00000160111.pdf) for a link to a complete comparison of how the hymns in _Glory to God_ are covered between the two). Their respective streaming bundles include the ability to include both lyrics and music in streams (OneLicense technically doesn't include everything, but it's close enough). We're not using pre-recorded music in service, so we shouldn't have to worry about that in this case.
The real issue is including music before/after service and at other events. For that, we need a _performance_ license, which would be CCS PERFORMcast. This would cover everything from having a radio playing during weekday events to performances of copyrighted music at Carey Moorman's recitals (the venue is ultimately responsible in those circumstances).
